Apps I’m Using Every Day

I’ve talked a lot about apps over the course of this channel, and usually, I talk just about ADHD-friendly productivity apps. I feel like it gives everyone the impression that I’m just hanging out, staring at to-do lists and time blocking shit all day, and that can’t be farther from the truth. I’m a bum, no matter what Instagram stories may be trying to say instead.

To prove it, I wanted to share with you guys what a normal day looks like on my phone: the apps I use regularly, the ones I love, and the ones I probably need to delete.

As always, you can watch me talk about this if you’d rather here

First thing in the morning, I meditate

At the time of writing this, I’m actually testing a few apps for meditation, because I really like the idea of personalized meditation, rather than the ones that kinda just tell you the usual “leaf on a river” visualization and call it a day. Meditation has been a very important part of my mental health for awhile now, and once Untold showed me the magic of personalized meditation, I haven’t looked back. Right now, I’m oscillating between Exhale’s free version, an app called Vital, and another called Balance. Once I’m done testing them all, I’ll check back in on them.

After I meditate, I do very important things, and by “very important things,” I mean I get mad reading Reddit for a bit, and then I play whatever game I’m obsessed with at the moment. Right now, it’s a game called Sorcery School, because I’m a million years old and prefer card games. Sorcery School is a lot of fun, well-developed, and totally possible to play without spending money. Just a heads up, though, that they haven’t updated the game’s story in like a year, and I don’t know when that’s happening.

Then, I study and I journal

So I eat breakfast, and then I study my languages. I’m bilingual, but that’s of, like, three years ago so I need to brush up regularly on my Spanish, and I’m learning French. For this, I use Duolingo at the moment. I know a lot of people have valid complaints about Duolingo, but the gamification and pattern-recognition of it really speaks to my brain. I got comfortable speaking with others in Spanish (the ultimate way to learn) thanks to this app, so I won’t trash talk them.

I have also used Busuu and may return to that eventually, and there’s a new one called LangoTalk that serves to improve your speaking, but they’re pretty expensive and don’t have a family plan, so I’ll be holding off on using them for a bit.

As mentioned before, I then journal for a bit. At the moment, I’m using Rosebud, which is an awesome AI-led voice journal that feels a lot like talking to a good friend who doesn’t mind when you ramble about whatever’s on your mind for two hours straight. I usually “go deeper” with Rosebud about three times before wrapping up and moving on.

Next, I plan my day

The way I plan my day has changed as of late. I used to use Sunsama all the time, but now that I don’t work at a desk most of the day, I’m using the Structured App. I need to do a video on them, too, sometime soon because I love them for personal time blocking more than any other.

When I’m actually on top of my goals – y’know, during the week or so a month that no one in my house is sick with something? – I also love using Grit to keep track of my habits. A video will be made on them, too….ARE YOU SEEING A PATTERN YET? ARE YOU?

And here are some apps I use for specific things:

I got really into utilizing my whole wardrobe ages ago, and my favorite app for this was Stylebook. It’s about $5 on the appstore, and it worked really well for helping me to not only keep track of what I was wearing, but it also helped me put outfits together with its shuffle feature, AND it helped me plan ahead on an actual calendar. Again, this was before I wound up staying home with kids 90% of the time, so I haven’t used it much lately, but it’s amazing for you if you like planning your outfits out, or don’t want to waste anything in your closet.

Storygraph is a great alternative to Goodreads that’s visual, faster, and, in my opinion, much more granular about book ratings. It also has a DNF feature, which makes me happy, because I don’t like giving good books the satisfaction of a “finished” rating. Yes, I will count you as a book for the year; no, I don’t want to tell people I sat through you. Looking at you, The Other Black Girl

Obviously, I also use the social media apps that most do. You can’t live in Costa Rica without WhatsApp and Facebook, I tried TikTok for a bit, and Instagram is still a thing for some reason, but I didn’t want to talk about those because I mean…who doesn’t use those?

What apps were you most curious about? Are there any you’d like to know more about? What about ones you use every day? Share with me!
